Any Estate. Carve a slice right through it and this is what you’ll see. Pain, laughter, tears. Life.
To most around Paradise Heights, Moses is King. An eye for opportunity and a cold ruthless streak got him to where he is; the top of the heap, looking down on all who feed his empire. But in a dog eat dog world, even Moses has to answer to someone. And when a deal goes bad Moses must act fast to recover the money he owes, otherwise The King will fall.
Moses discovers that his handicapped brother, Chalkie, has been offered money for the artwork he creates; fantastic street art that litters the estate; an array of colour that has helped Chalkie communicate with the outside world since a childhood accident left him with brain damage. The advance presents Chalkie with a lifeline to escape from the estate, or indeed Moses with a means to save his own skin. Few would bet against Moses. Even if it means stealing from his own brother.
As Moses sets out to carve his own fate, the consequences of his actions impact on the other residents. Skid-row lovers Kieran and Lisa must make a decision that may secure their future together, or split them apart. Ex-con, Roy, seeks revenge from the man that slept with his wife and street girl Donna fights to escape the clutches of her past. In the pressure cooker of the estate, their lives will criss-cross as events conspire against them. As the stories collide in an explosive climax, few will escape the path that fate has laid for them.
From the critically acclaimed writer of The Bench and I’m Frank Morgan comes a shamelessly true representation of life on the estate; gritty, heart warming and made on the streets.
Salford Film Festival is proud to present the WORLD PREMIERE, of this tough , moving, and darkly funny independent drama from director Chris Leonard and writer and star Joe O’Byrne, shot on location right here, with a predominantly local cast.
