Not, as is commonly believed, Sir Ben’s feature film debut, but certainly the one that made his name, and won him a well-deserved Oscar for his thoughtful and complex portrayal of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the man whose policy of non-violent protest succeeded where aggression could not – in bringing the British Empire to a standstill.
NOTE: This film will be preceded by a special presentation: A Brief History of Salford Cinemas, with local historian Tony Flynn.
