Cup Fever

Junior football team Barton United are heading for cup-winning success in their local league. But their biggest rivals have an unfair advantage - their team captain is the son of a crooked City Councillor, who will stop at nothing to ensure victory. But Barton have influential allies of their own… A Prize Winner at the 1966 Venice Film Festival, this Children’s Film Foundation classic was shot on location in Eccles and Patricroft, features the film debuts of Susan George and Olivia Hussey, a speaking part for Sir Matt Busby, and cameos from the entire 1965 Manchester United team. So why hasn’t anybody ever heard of it? Tony Flynn was very nearly an extra in the film. He’ll be here to introduce it, and fill us in on a lost gem of British cinema.
