Support Pouring in for Salford Film Festival

With the Salford Film Festival returning for a fourth year, support is pouring in to back this great event for the city.

The Salford Film Festival is a festival for the people of Salford, by the people of Salford, starring the people of Salford. It’s the chance for locals to not only see new and classic films, but also show off their film making talents with screenings of locally made community short films. All screenings are FREE and will take place at a range of venues across the city from 24-28 November.

There’s been great support for the film festival again, now in its fourth successful year with support coming from both inside the media industry and the local community. The festival is a joint collaboration between, CRIS, Northern Film Network, Reel North and Salford City Council. Festival partners also include Salford PCT, IMMC, Channel M, CIDS, BFAssociates, Friday Night Films and Looking Glass Films.

CRIS is a community enterprise established to provide a partnership between the creative industries and the community with multi-agency support to promote, establish and sustain the creative sector in Salford. It provides training and employment opportunities within the creative sector locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Northern Film Network is an information service for filmmakers, primarily based in the North West of England. It keeps filmmakers up to date with information and opportunities and encourages collaboration.

Reel North is Channel M's critically-acclaimed short film showcase produced by the International Media Centre at the University of Salford. It champions the very best in new cinematic talent, screening quality short films from Manchester, the UK and around the world. Reel North is quite simply a festival of short film on local television.

Salford City Council is supporting the festival for the first time this year through funding and marketing support. The council is committed to supporting media and the arts in Salford and the festival is a perfect way for local communities to engage with the industry and help nurture creative talent in the city.

The festival also has a whole host of famous supporters from film and TV. This year the festival will screen five of Sir Ben Kingsley’s films, chosen by the Salford Oscar winner, and local actor and Eastenders star Stephen Lord will premiere his new film. Other famous Salford stars such as Robert Powell, Christopher Eccleston and Albert Finney are also avid supporters of the festival.

Robert Powell said, “When I was a boy growing up in Salford I could never have dreamt that the city would have its own film festival! Another step on the road to Salford realizing its potential. The festival has my wholehearted support and I wish all the participants every success."

So make sure you get your hands on the hottest tickets in town, switch off your mobile, grab some popcorn and prepare for 5 days of fantastic films…
