Films A-Z

Until the line-up for 2010 is announced, we are keeping 2009's A to Z in place, so that visitors to the site can find out more about the films screened in our previous festival.

OLIMPIADAS [OLYMPICS]

Two incorrigible gamblers find themselves stranded miles from anywhere when their car runs out of petrol. They flip a coin to decide who should go in search of a garage… Showing as part of CAUGHT SHORT ONE: LAUGH THIS OFF!

OMIROS [HOSTAGE]

A young Albanian immigrant boards an intercity bus on its daily route to Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. He hijacks the bus at gunpoint.  In his left hand he holds a grenade.  He allows most of the passengers to leave, but keeps seven as hostages, demanding a ransom and safe passage back to his country. His explanation is simple – he wants his honour back. As the journey progresses, we learn what has driven him to this desperate act, and what he means by these words… But the hostages too have their secrets—their daily routines have been catastrophically disrupted, and they are increasingly unwilling to remain passive victims. Tensions build. Surrounded by a convoy of television crews, desperate relatives, bystanders and police cars, the bus crosses into Albania, for a final, shocking confrontation… Inspired by real events, this tense and topical political thriller explores racial and social tensions in an increasingly paranoid world, and the ways in which an increasingly sensationalist news media has become part of the problem. In such a world, what lengths must the victim of a crime go to in order for his story to be heard? And even then, will it be enough?

Salford Film Festival would like to thank Nikolaos Kavadias for his help in securing this film.
