“All I ever wanted was a dad. Instead I got a son…” Fourteen year-old Robbie has just become a dad. And he’s just been reunited with his own estranged father, Joe. But Joe lets him down once again, and an angry Robbie snatches his baby son and goes on the run, leaving violence in his wake. As Joe joins the search for the increasingly alienated Robbie, each is forced to face up to the past and to the responsibilities and true meaning of fatherhood.
This emotionally stirring coming of age drama stars Ian Hart (Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone, Backbeat), Louise Delamere (No Angels), Steve Evets (Looking For Eric), and Chrissie Rock (Benidorm, Ladybird Ladybird), and marks the acting debut of Kyle Ward and the feature film debut of award-winning director Brian Percival and producers Michael Knowles and Stacey Murray. A Boy Called Dad received its World Premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 2009 where it was nominated for the Michael Powell award with its young lead Kyle Ward winning a Trailblazer award. The film was also voted an audience favourite at the festival. It has just been accepted at the prestigious Rome International Film Festival and goes on general release in March 2010.
